Jaguar Land Rover is developing a technology aimed at eradicating potholes.
More specifically, this system is designed to identify the severity and location of roadway defects, things like frost heaves, manhole covers and chuckholes and then share this data in real time through the cloud to help authorities make repairs. The firm is currently working with Coventry County in the UK to find out how to make all of this work.
This innovative connected-car feature has the potential to save motorists bucket-loads of money as they can sidestep vehicle damage, flat tire and crashes.

If a driver knows where a bad section of road is they can avoid it altogether or slow down while traversing a particularly treacherous spot to avoid trouble. Additionally, the Jaguar or Land Rover vehicle they’re driving can adjust its suspension to soften the blow.
Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport models equipped with MagneRide also feature an array of sensors that allow them to profile the road and identify the above mentioned defects. These sensors could also be beneficial to autonomous vehicles. If they can sense the road ahead safety and convenience can be improved.
